Around Baton Rouge 2

Here are a few more photos taken in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The photo at top was taken at the lake at sunset. Every evening cormorants (鵜)and herons (鷺) come to sit in the cypress trees (糸杉), which grow in the water.
The birds look very beautiful as they fly down out of the sky and over the water.
In the picture below, you can see a steamboat on the Mississippi River. River cruises on steamboats are very popular.
The other pictures were taken during the winter a few years ago. You can see that there are no hills or mountains- the land is very flat. The trees are called pecans, and in the fall pecan nuts fall to the ground. People gather them and make pecan pies, or eat the pecans by themselves. Pecans are a delicious treat!

Around Baton Rouge

Here are some photos taken in my hometown, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The large white building is the Old State Capitol (旧州庁 ), built in 1849. It is now a museum of Louisiana culture. The building is on a hill by the Mississippi River. Mark Twain, the author who wrote Tom Sawyer, once said that it was the ugliest building on the river, but I think it is beautiful.
The other pictures show a lake in my hometown. People enjoy walking or jogging around it, and some people go fishing there. The birds are pelicans, which come to the lake in winter.

At Home for Christmas, 2003 and 2005

The pictures of my two boys, Thomas and Laurence, were taken outside of my parents' house. We were visiting them for Christmas. As you can see, the grass is green, there are leaves on the trees, and the boys are wearing t-shirts. The game the boys are playing together is called "hopscotch." The picture of Emma was taken inside the house in December, 2005. You can still see a few Christmas decorations in the background.

Welcome

Hello, students and teachers. Welcome to my photo blog. One of my hobbies is taking pictures. Over the years I have taken many pictures, both in America and Japan. I believe that looking at pictures is a good way to learn about culture. Pictures are good conversation-starters, too. I will scan and upload a new photo album each week. I will also write a short explanation of the photos in English. If you have any questions or want to leave a comment, please contact me. I will be happy to communicate with you.
